my mother is hawaiian but my father is not, hence my not hawaiian name. my mum likes to call me kalia at home because it's her name too and i think she just likes hearing it.
i am descended from the line of the hawaiian King David Kalakaua, who was resposible for restoring the hula dance that was despised by the missionaries due to the skimpiness of clothing, shaking etc. therefore it has been very important to my family to uphold the glory of hula dancing, but i rebelled as a bitchy girl in my class kept swishing her stupid hair in my face and i prefered surfing.
my great grandfather was an extra on the set of South Pacific and my great uncle could talk to dolphins. when Jessica Takopachi's relative flew over his ship at Pearl Harbour, he was thrown off and summoned a dolphin, which carried him to a hotel, where he met my great aunt, a resident lounge pianist and magician.
talking to dolphins is actually not that unbelievable, because dolphins have a way of communicating with each other and special people telepathically. in fact, Madeleine L'Engle, who wrote A Ring Of Endlss Light, which concerns communication with dolphins and non linear time, talked to my great uncle about this while she was writing it. he was also one of the founding members of Seaworld, but he quit when the dolpins on the show told him they were just doing it for the fish and he felt that the dolpins back home in their natural habitat saw more meaning to their lives than fish. he aslso saw that the captive female dolphins tended to form cliques a la mean girls, so he wasn't too happy.
my grandfather met Jessica Adianto's (or OP the second) grandfather when he was learning to surf at the beach. Jessica Aidanto's grandfather introduced mine to durians and he liked them so much that he named his business after Jessica Adianto's grandfather's daughter, OP the first. his cousin, on the other hand, started Hula and Co. which was initially a maunfacturer of hula hoops before it started selling clothes and accessories.
i grew up on a pineapple plantation and was happy most of the time except when they juiced the pineapples, because i didn't like pineapples themselves. i had an ugly but lovable dog when i was a kid, and one day when i was playing with him at the touristy beach, we caught the eye of a disney scriptwriter on holiday and the animated movie hit lilo and stitch was released years later.
i had a particular talent for surfing, and i am the holder of over ten championships. i also became very skilled in surfing backwards. unfortunately, one day when i was doing that i fell into a giant school of fish and some swam up my suit. others viciously attempted to eat my surfboard. luckily for me, one of my great uncle's dolphin friends recognised me and saved me from the killer fish. i had recurring nightmares involving the scary fish, my surfboard and my geography teacher so i was very traumatised and, due to my newly acquired fish phobia, have not touched a surfboard since. so i had to find something else to devote my talents to.
i discovered my calling for opera singing when i took to walking on the beach at night and singing in the shadows to scare the tourists. however, in hawaii there is a lot of empahsis on hula dancing (a lot of it thanks to my ancestor) and not so much on opera. because of this, and my limited fruit-consuming habits, plus the fact that i didn't like my property smelling of pineappes, we moved here. another reason was that my grandfather heard that a building called the esplanade, aka the DURIAN, was being constructed, and got very excited at the prospect of a giant durian, so we moved when i was 11 to shut him up. he couldn't go though, because my great uncle and his dolphins persuaded him not to, so we send him all the brochures in the esplanade every year.
every december, i go back to hawaii, where i have a nice boyfriend whose name is either the first or second part of 'sugarkane', which is what i call him when i want to make people feel uncomfortable. he is a champion scuba diver and is always trying to to make me go for therapy to combat my fish phobia. he's coming for my choir concert. oh, and my family owns a volcano.
disclaimer: this may or may not have been fabricated. so no one sue me.
